Benoît Grenet

Born in Reims in 1980, Benoît Grenet graduated from the CNSMD de Paris, where he studied with Michel Strauss and Itamar Golan, before completing advanced studies with Philippe Muller and Christophe Coin. He has also participated in numerous masterclasses with distinguished cellists, including Natalia Gutman, Anner Bylsma, János Starker, and Isaac Stern.

A finalist in the 2003 ‘Vittorio Gui’ International Competition in Florence, he went on to place fourth in the 2004 Johann Sebastian Bach International Competition in Leipzig. From 2001 to 2006, he served as solo cellist of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, and in 2004, at the invitation of Pierre Boulez, he held the same position at the inaugural Lucerne Festival Academy. He is a regular guest with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe.

At the invitation of Claudio Abbado, Benoît Grenet became a founding member of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra and Orchestra Mozart. He has been a member of the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris since 2006, and was appointed solo cellist in 2016.
