Livia Stanese

Cello

Livia Stanese began learning the cello at the age of seven and made her debut at eleven at the Villa Medici in Rome. She studied first with Masha Janushewskoya and later at the CNSMD in Paris with Philippe Muller, where she earned her first prizes. She holds a Master of Music from Rice University in Houston. She won the concerto competition at the Aspen Music Festival in 1999, and in 2001, the International Chamber Music Competition in Potenza and the Libero Lana Prize in Trieste. She was also a semi-finalist at the Rostropovitch Cello Competition and the Antonio Janigro International Cello Competition.

Livia Stanese has been mentored by masters such as Mstislav Rostropovitch, Yo-Yo Ma, Gary Hoffman, and János Starker. She has performed at prestigious venues and festivals, including the Festival de Saint-Riquier, Mozarteum Salzburg, Dartington Festival, Flâneries Musicales de Reims, and Orangerie de Sceaux.

A passionate chamber musician, she has collaborated with Ivry Gitlis, Stephen Kovacevich, Jean-Frédéric Neuburger, and Geneviève Laurenceau. In 1994, she gave the world premiere of Trois Esquisses—composed especially for her by Éric Tanguy—at the Festival de Saint-Riquier. In 2010, at the Salon de la Musique in Paris, she premiered Souffle sur les cendres by Jean-Frédéric Neuburger, a performance broadcast on France Musique.

Livia Stanese has been a member of the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris since 2004, performing on a Celestino Farotto cello (Milan, 1926), with a Simon FR bow.
