2023 Play-Conduct Academy
The Orchestre de Chambre de Paris has made the practice of joué-dirigé—playing while conducting—one of the cornerstones of its work with leading artists. Because this approach demands and fosters a special kind of musical rapport, it offers exceptional artistic richness. And because the transmission of knowledge lies at the heart of the orchestra’s philosophy, the Play-Conduct Academy was created in 2011 with support from Groupe Monceau Assurances.
While preserving the legacy of recent editions devoted entirely to the piano in partnership with Steinway & Sons, this seventh academy returned to the orchestra’s earlier tradition of welcoming a wider variety of solo instruments.
Together, Catherine Larsen-Maguire (conducting), Javier Perianes (piano), and Antje Weithaas (violin) served as the co-artistic directors of the 2023 academy, which hosted pianists Anton Gerzenberg and Emin Kiourktchian, and violinists Javier Comesaña Barrera and Inmo Yang, for a week of intensive work at the Philharmonie de Paris.
The programme concluded with a finale concert on Friday, 8 September at 7.30pm, preceded by a roundtable discussion on the art of play-conducting, moderated by France Musique producer and journalist Christian Merlin.
