Javier Comesaña

Born in Seville in 1999, described by the Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung as “an open-minded and intelligent musician, able to find new ways of music making”, Javier Comesaña is the winner of the VI Jascha Heifetz International Competition for violinists and the Prinz von Hessen-Preis, given by the Kronberg Academy. He is also a Laureate of the International Violin Competition Joseph Joachim.

His former teachers are Yuri Managadze, Sergey Teslya and Marco Rizzi, with whom he has made his Bachelor at the Reina Sofia High School of Music, in Madrid. In 2019 and 2021, he was distinguished, by Her Majesty the Queen Sofia of Spain, as “the most outstanding student” of his chair. Currently he studies at the Hanns Eisler School of Music, under the teaching of Antje Weithaas. 

As a chamber musician, he has appeared in prestigious halls, festivals and institutions’ concert seasons, amongst others the National Auditorium of Music (Madrid), the Beethoven-Haus (Bonn), Laeiszhalle (Hamburg), Sommerliche Musiktage (Hitzacker), Spannungen (Heimbach),  l’Unione Musicale (Turin) and Lucca Classica.

As a soloist, he has performed under the baton of conductors like Pablo González, Vasily Petrenko, Andrew Manze, David Afkham and Alvaro Albiach, with orchestras from his country (Spanish National Orchestra, ORTVE, Spanish National Youth Orchestra and Symphonic Orchestras of Galicia, Castilla y León and Seville), as well as abroad (NDR Radiophilarmonie of Hannover, Staatsoper Hannover, Poznan Philarmonic Orchestra, Lithuanian National Orchestra, Camerata Bern, Orchestra da Camera di Mantova and Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano). 

Javier plays currently on a Giovanni Battista Guadagnini, from the 1765, generously loaned by the Fritz Behrens Stiftung.
